to twist the mind of man
and womankind... --- start of included, nitre-encrusted text --- Chris Jarocha-Ernst (Cthulhu's Jersey Epopt) wrote: > (If it's not animated, it's > got Muppets in it, and while Henson's Creature Shop has done some > good work, I haven't yet seen anything I'd mistake for a real > creature.) SNORT!! Snuffle, sob... I think Chris just hit on the perfect film vehicle for this story -- The_Muppets_Take_Kadath! Wait, it's blinding! I can see it now: Kermit as Randolph Carter... His li'l red-tongued mouth snaps open with shock as he realizes, in his Dickensian suit left over from The_Muppets_Christmas_Carol, just what the High Priest Not To Be Described really is -- to the accompaniment of a burst of "shrubbery" suspense music from MP & THG... The face on Ngranek is the mustache-less heckler from the balcony... The other heckler is the evil merchant... Animal plays Pickman, and Scooter is the disciple who DIDN'T get drawn into the sky. Nyarlathotep is played either by the saxophonist in the mirror shades, or by James Coburn... Chris, it's brilliant. Why didn't I think of this? I think Chris just hit on the perfect film > vehicle for this story -- The_Muppets_Take_Kadath! > > Wait, it's blinding! I can see it now: Kermit as Randolph > Carter... We open, of course, with a musical number on the streets of Arkham, with Kermit sitting on a balcony above it all and wistfully singing about the shining city of his dreams. Enter lighthouse keeper Basil Elton (Pop), who tells of his voyage to the Dreamlands aboard the White Ship. Kermit tries to find the White Ship but find only ordinary ships (complete with Rizzo and the rats) among the wharfs of Kingsport. Disappointed, he returns home and falls asleep... The High Priests of the Cavern of Flame, Nasht and Kaman-Thah, are Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beeker (mee mee meep). The Zoogs should look a bit like Animal: cute and furry, with buggy eyes, until they open their mouths and show all those sharp teeth. (This leads into shtick with Marvin Suggs and his Zoogaphone: he takes an array of Zoogs and hits each over the head in turn to make a note. To set this up, we pronounce "Zoogs" as "Zsuggs".) > Scooter is the disciple who DIDN'T get drawn into the sky. You mean Atal, the High Priest in Ulthar? Good casting. The cat general is, of course, Gaffer the Backstage Cat (with his eyepatch). > The face on Ngranek is the mustache-less heckler from the balcony... > The other heckler is the evil merchant... Statler and Waldorf. I think Waldorf is the mustached one. Statler should be a captain on the slave galley. The other almost-humans of Leng and the moon-beasts are specially designed Muppets. When Carter makes the trip to Ngranek, the carven face is Rowlf. (Also appropriate since Rowlf is one of the Elder Muppets.) The night-gaunts are special Muppets, too. > Animal plays Pickman So far there's been part for Miss Piggy, though, and I doubt she'd sit still for another side role like in CHRISTMAS CAROL. Since the ghouls play one of the larger parts in the plot, place Animal among the Zoogs and she could be Rachel Upton Pigman. The Gug in the Tower of Koth is Sweetums. Kuranes, in the floating city of Celephais, is Fozzie. (Celephais floats because of laughing gas, or hot air from jokes, or some such. Think "Uncle Albert" from MARY POPPINS.) The leader of the Shantaks that capture him in the quarries near Urg is Uncle Deadly. Kermit's encounter with the High Priest of Leng leads to an unmasking, revealing... The Great Gonzo! > Nyarlathotep is played either by the saxophonist in the mirror > shades, Zoot? Naw, he's one of the Leng musicians. (Fer shure!) > or by James Coburn... Now *that's* brilliant.
